Firms from South-East Asia, in the hope of maintaining its microcomponents export activities to the European community, must know exactly what the unification program's components are and what its strategic implications are going to be. As a response, this research study identifies the EC-wide directives, industry-specific legislation and R&D projects relevant to the industry from a European perspective. In so doing, a series of interviews were conducted with leading firms operating in Europe to get their perceptions on the strategic implications of the program on the industry's structure, competitive priorities and location of value activities. Based on the results, short and long-term strategies appropriate for South-East Asian companies are recommended.
