GT-79-14Publication details: Bangkok : Asian Institute of Technology, 1980Description: vi, 213 pSubject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1980 Summary: This thesis deals with the prediction of ultimate carrying capacity of driven and bored piles in Bangkok subsoils and the analysis of pile driving data by wave eqution method. The results showed that the Total Stress Method gave a good estimation of the ultimate loads of driven and bored piles. CHIN's method overestimated the ultimate loads of driven and bored piles. Pile driving formulae seemed to under predict the ultimate loads of driven piles and gave rather scattered results. a In the Wave Equation Method of analysis of pile driving data, a parametric study was made to determine the effects of soil parameters on the solutions obtained by Wave Equation Analysis. In the prediction of load-carrying capability of driven piles in Bangkok area, appropriate soil parameters and ratio of point resistance to total resistance have been selected. The results showed that the Wave Equation Method can give good estimate of ultimate static load after corrections.
