The experiment was 3x3 systematic design including three levels and combinations of N and P. At 5 weeks after broadcasting, half of the plots were topdressed with three levels of N. Application of N increased growth and concentration of N, P. K. Na, Fe and Zn, when applied as basal dressing. Application of P also increased growth and concentration of P, K, Fe, Na, Zn. Preliminary models of diagnosis and yield prognosis were developed. They demonstrate clear relationships between application of nutrients, chemical composition of young plant and final yield. Diagnosis and yield prognosis were expressed quantitatively and could thus he tested by comparing the actual yields with calculated ones.
