The study is also conducted to find out the removal efficiency of this combined treatment unit for the removal of organic and inorganic substances such as turbidity, color, TSS, COD, Iron, Manganese, Copper, Lead, coliform and chlorophyll-a. The shape of the filter unit was in rectangular tank, with the size of 60 cm length, 20 cm width and 70 cm height. The volume of the tank for the pretreatment of raw water and its filtration rate are 42 L and 2.6 Limn, respectively. Optimum dose of actizyme for the pretreatment of raw water was found to be 10 mg/l, which can remove the turbidity of 40 % and color of 66.6 % after four days of batch operation. The proposed household water filter was able to remove 73 % of turbidity, 94 % of color, 100 % of TSS, 83.9 % of manganese, 73 % of Iron, 95.41 % of copper, 87.24 % of lead, 80.8 % of COD, 100 % of chlorophyll-a and coliform. Removal efficiency of color after sand bag was 41.2 %, while after fine sand layer 53. l % and after GAC and ACF 88.6 %. In case of COD, the removal efficiency has increased at each stage 22.2 %, 57.0 % and 92.6 % respectively. From the results obtained it can be justified that the water treatment system has a great potential to use in rural areas of the developing countries.
