The electricity demand in Vietnam has been increasing rapidly. To meet the power demand, a planning for its distribution network should be implemented in terms of both technical and economic considerations. In this thesis, based on data collected from direct surveys and regional information, the load demand forecasting for Phan thiet city during the period of 2008-2015 has been conducted. To reduce power losses and improve voltage profiles, two scenarios have been proposed for the primary distribution system planning of Phanthiet city. Scenario 1 is to upgrade the system along with capacitor addition. Scenario 2 is to upgrade and combine with distributed generation and capacitor placement. Each scenario consists of two stages, i.e. stage I (2008-2010) and stage II (2011-2015). Scenario 1 has been selected to meet economic evaluation while satisfying technical constraints. PSS/ADEPT software has been applied to analyze power flow and place capacitors on the primary distribution system
