One control commercial diet and six formulated diets which cont~ined two protein levels 28.6% (Pl) and 34.9% (P2) protein. Each protein level was formulated to contain three energy levels, namely, 303 (Cl;low), 340 (C2;intermediate) and 363 (C3;high) Kcal digestible energy (DE) per 100 g. Cassava starch was used as a source of carbohydrate energy to achieve desired energy level. A commercial catfish pellet was used as a control diet. Growth response and feed utilization efficiency improved with increasing dietary energy up to 340 kcal and decreased beyond that level at each dietary protein level. The improvement was pronounced in the 28.6 % protein diet which contained 340 kcal DE/100 g. Dietary energy and protein levels inversely affected body fat content; however, it was still within acceptable limits for consumers.
