Engineering properties of cement treated Bangkok clay

Soil samples were taken from Bangplee site. The clay sample was thoroughly mixed with Portland cement (Type I), using a special mixing and molding procedure to ensure uniformity of specimen. At 28 days, strength of cement treated clay was found 20 times higher than that of the base clay. Axial strain decreased with an increase in cement content. The stress path of cement treated clay was similar to that of highly overconsolidated clay. Effective friction angle increased with cement content. The cement treated clal showed lower friction angle as the cement content increased more than 150 kg/m . Cohesion intercept increased with cement content. Preconsolidation pressure increased with an increase in cement content. Permeability of cement treated clay was decreased with an increase in cement content. During undrained creep test, small axial deformation was found. Pore pressure increased with time under constant stress level. Semple's (1973) exponential creep equation is applicable for undrained creep behavior of cement treated Bangkok clay.
