Its application generated high demands for efficient and rapid expertise. This study aims at developing an expert system for boiler fans maintenance support, based on the vibration monitoring and diagnosis technique. The expert system attempts to cater for the following information: (i) The overall condition of the boiler fan; (ii) Detection of the failures inside the fan and the failures reasons; (iii) The remaining working time of the fan and the best time for the next inspection. To develop the expert system, the relations between fans vibration and its condition, its failures, and its working time need to be determined. Then the field data were collected to validate the theoretical relations and to quantify them. The expert system knowledge and structure were also studied. The expert system was programmed afterward in LabView. Though the field data were insufficient, the results of the expert systems trial running showed its competence in achieving its tasks.
