Firstly, based on the fact that the scour hole shape possesses a similarity profile in the progressive stage, a semi-theoretical approach to analyze the evolution of local scour is proposed on the basis of the transformed sediment continuity equation and the non-equilibrium sediment transport equation. A proposed model was calibrated by available data in the literature and compared with experimental data. Secondly, the Strip Integral Method used to calculate the velocity field, water surface, decay of maximum velocity, growth of boundary layer thickness, bed shear stress of the flow downstream of a sluice under different initial hydraulic conditions (gate opening, Froude members, tailwater depths ) by solving simultaneously the continuity equation and the boundary layer equation. The computed results are then compared to the available experimental data. An attempt was made to use the results of the Strip Integral Method to calculate the flow field over a rigid apron.
