By: Call Number: AIT Thesis no.ST-83-17 Contributor(s): Material type: TextSeries: Asian Institute of Technology. Thesis ; no. ST-83-17Publication details: Bangkok : Asian Institute of Technology, 1983Description: vii, 43 pSubject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1983 Summary: A finite element formulation, based on an incremental method, is presented to predict the load-deformation characteristics of locally buckled steel columns. A stiffened column is regarded as an assemblage of a number of T-section elements and plate elements of which the local buckling length is fixed by transverse diaphragms. The effect of local buckling is taken into account by using an appropriate average stress-strain curve. several numerical examples are presented and compared with some available theoretical and experimental results. Good agreement is observed within the elastic range.
