During the time prior to. the departure of a flight with or without intermediate stops, decision should be made for finding the maximum allowable allocation of seats on the various spans such that a maximum expected contribution to profit for the flight is obtained. The model utilizes the time distribution of reservations and cancellations for each span. The effects of waitlists, standbys and overbookings are also considered. The model developed is computerized to make it operational, A small numerical example was used to test the validity of the model, after which the model was applied to the real case of an airline in Asia. In this application only a flight without intermediate stops was considered due to data insufficiency; however the model can readily be used to consider also a flight with intermediate stops.
