Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 2003 Summary: Accessing building information based on digital landscape image is becoming big market and useful in providing situation awareness in built-up areas. The real-time system for building identification is built on digital landscape image supports to very potential and big market in tourist support system as well as urban disaster mitigation such as fire, earthquake, etc. The system helps people to know what is happening in the real world and help them to decide what to do in a new situation. In this study, the main work is developing a core algorithm for real time building identification system by linking images from high places (airplane or high buildings) to existing 2D GIS building database. The line matching algorithm is developed in short time processing. The landscape image captured from the high place is rectified by line matching between edge of digital landscape image and edge of 3D computer graphics. The 3D computer graphics is created from 2D GIS building data with number of floors as height information. Then, building ID points which is the center point image of building ID created from 3D computer graphics is displayed onto the rectified landscape image. From building ID points, users can access more detailed information of buildings in 2D GIS building database. Further more, the integrated landscape image is created which is overlay of the rectified landscape image, building ID points and numbers, and 3D computer graphics, for assisting users in pointing access.
