Various hypotheses have however been proposed where it is postulated that clay with the same value of overconsolidation ratio will behave independent of the value of the maximum past pressure. Laboratory results of tests on artificially sedimented Bangkok Clay are presented for maximum past pressures ranging from 10 to 1000 psi with overconsolidation ratio of 1 to 64. The normalized strength of samples with the same overconsolidation ratio were found to decrease as the value of the maximum past pressure increased and thus to deviate from the concept of unique normalization. The samples with maximum past pressure of 10 lb/in2 showed a much higher normalized strength as compared to those with maximum past pressure of 100,500 and 1,000 lb/in2 and this high strength was probably due to the presence of structural bond strength. As the maximum past pressure increased from 10 to 1000 lb/in2 the 1 value decreased while the c value increased.
