The Thivai soft clay foundation for serving the oil-gas facilities was improved with the prefabricated vertical drains (PVD) together with pre-loading. The monitoring instruments such as the surface settlement plates, the observed wells, the piezometers, etc were installed during constructing the embankment to observe the deformation of the very soft clay stratum under backfill and the embankment was considered as the test one. Available data as well as observed records are to be processed and analyzed to evaluate the basic characteristics of Thivai silty very soft clay stratum and some characteristics of Thivai clays is compared with Bankok typical clays. The results of processing from Casagrande method and Taylor method are used for predicting the rate and the amount of settlement using one-dimensional consolidation theory and Asaoka's method. The observed records are treated for back-calculating the horizontal coefficient of consolidation and the degree of consolidation. Degree of consolidation determined from computing will be compared with the excess pore water dissipation estimated from monitoring pore water pressure to predict the degree of primary compression and the degree of secondary compression for serving a settlement -controlling plan in the long time.
