Acute toxic tests on seven species of Chao Phya River fish were con ducted using heavy metals (Cadmium and Copper) to identify a sensitive fish which could be used as a standard fish for future works. It was found that the most sensitive fish to copper was Morulius chry sophekadion with a 96 h-TLm value of 0.043 mg/l as copper and the next most sensitive fish was Puntius gonionotus with a 96 h-TLm value of ·0.11 mg/l. The most sensitive fish to cadmium was Puntius gonionotus with a 96 h TLm value of 3.43 mg/l as metal and the next most sensitive fish was Moru rius chrysophekadion with a 96 h-TLm value of 4.5 mg/l as metal. The most resistant fish to both Cadmium and Copper was Tilapia nilotica. Median to lerance limits of Copper and Cadmium to certain species of fish after 96 h approached the lethal threshold concentration but some species of fish re quired a longer period of time, and the toxicity of Copper was greater than that of Cadmium.
