Using the S60 mobile phone platform for SCADA SQL database access and process control - Pathum Thani, Thailand : Asian Institute of Technology, 2007 - 62 p. : ill. - Thesis ; no. ISE-07-12 . - Asian Institute of Technology. Thesis ; no. ISE-07-12 .
A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Master of Engineering in Mechatronics, School of Engineering and Technology
Thesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 2007
There are many well-known control systems in the automation field. One of the most powerful software is the Simatic Process Control System 7 (PCS7) from Siemens. To improve applications of the PCS7, a proposal to apply a mobile phone piatformPCS7 is for studied in this thesis. A conventional SCADA system is based on hardware, Profibus, MPI, Step7 and WinCC programs and Engineering Station. Most of SCADA applications use wired are wiring communication so that controllability is limited. To open controllability of SCADA, study to combine a Symbian series 60 mobile phone to monitor and to control PSC7 is conducted. A mobile phone can be considered as a mobile operational station. By creating an HTTP Application, mobile clients can access MSSQL database of WinCC via GPRS connection. In addition, an Apache - PHP web server is built to transfer data between mobile phone and SQL database. Furthermore, alarms are automatically sent to clients as a short message (SMS) whenever an emergency occurs in PCS7 project. This function is very helpful because users are warned about danger. In conclusion, by integrating mobile phone with PCS7, effectiveness of the automation system becomes not only more powerful but also more useful
