A computer aid in the take-off of work quantities of building works - Bangkok : Asian Institute of Technology, 1983 - v, 122 p. - Thesis ; no. ST-83-19 . - Asian Institute of Technology. Thesis ; no. ST-83-19 .
A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Master of Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology
Thesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1983
The possibility of preparing a bill of quantities and cost estimates with a micro-computer is studied with reference to the APPLE II computer. An attempt is made to utilize the capacity of the micro-computer to the maximum in storing the information that constitute the bill of quantities. The process of a preparing bill of quantities manually is studied carefully, as a base for searching to find the areas of computer application. These areas are then used as the starting point for the development of the programmes n the micro-computer. The development of a programme with a flexible approach is made in order to allow manoeuvability within the program. The result obtained from this study indicates that a micro-computer can be used to prepare a bill of quantities and cost estimates efficiently, can contain much more information than by the manual preparation and can show the breakdown of work more effectively. The suitability of using a micro-computer in preparing a bill of quantities and cost estimates in actual construction is presented as an example.
