In rural areas, where a majority of the people in developing live, renewable energy in the hill can, however, be supplied by tapping the innumerable small rivers and streams which can best be harnessed by using micro-hydropower schemes. Micro-hydro power is one of these sources of energy. This study indicates advantage of micro-hydro power, especially the lowest scale family-sizes, when compared to diesel power plants and using two alternatives of investment to find the most effective one. The cost-benefit analyses have been presented by taking one village where is a famous on traditional silk-dress production as a case study including the environmental impact assessment within two northern provinces of Lao PDR. This study will also a good indicator or guideline for skilled technicians at village level.
