Headway distribution is a function of traffic flow. Traffic flow is a phenomenon of the driver's behaviour which is strongly influenced by distance judgement, especially in platoon vehicles. Distance judgement is a psychological response affected by driving speed. A series of response-stimulus field experiments at three speed levels were carried out to ascertain the relationship between a driver ' s distance judgement (response) and car-following distance (stimullls). I n addition, three sets of traffic data were collected at three sites on the highway and classified into speed classes from 40 kph to 90 kph by 10 kph increments. The data within the isolated and non-isolated regime under each speed class were fitted by lognormal function. The results were compared to the driver's response -stimulus relation . The response is proportional to the logarithm of the stimulus and the frequency of responses on a normal distribution were drawn.
