A research study submitted in paitial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering, School of Environment, Resources and Development
Research report (M.Sc.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 2002
The effect of furnish properties on the compression strength of linerbord has been studied using refining and furnish composition as variables. Bleached mixed tropical hardwood, acacia, softwood and bamboo kraft pulps were used as raw material. Drum Dryer, which was almost restrained was used for drying handsheets. Ring crush test and short span compression test methods were used to measure compression strength. Bleached mixed tropical hard wood and acacia kraft pulps were refined by using PFI Mill at the revolution of 0, 2000, 4000, 8000. Bleached softwood and bamboo kraft pulps were mixed with bleached mixed tropical hardwood kraft at the percentage of 20, 40 and 60 separately. Refining increased compression strength as well as drainage time. Refining was limited by drainage time. Addition of bleached softwood kraft pulp with bleached mixed tropical hardwood kraft pulp improved compressive strength but addition of bamboo pulp with mixed tropical hardwood pulp had no effect on compression strength.
