Research Studies Project Report (M. Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1985

This research report identifies the potential environmental impacts of increased coal use in powerplants. An investigation of published literature was carried out to provide evidence of the adverse effects of coal-related activities including mining, coal cleaning, transporting, storing in piles and burning. Wherever applicable, measures to minimize environmental pollution are briefly described. Acid precipitation is discussed in relation to the gaseous by-products emitted from stacks. Thermal pollution is also considered. finally, the health and safety risks associated with the coal fuel cycle and the transformation products of gaseous pollutants released are reviewed
