Each measurement structure in open channels measure the water flow with different performances and capabilities related to certain condition~ in the field. Most difficulties in flat land irrigation systems are in choosing the appropriate measurement structure with the limited head available. A study of Broad-crested Weirs, Flumes, Orifices and Sharp- crested Weirs has been done. The performance of structures related to accuracy of measurement, sensitivity, siltation and entrapment of debris are also studied. The sensitivity related to the shape and dimension of the structure was calibrated in the Hydraulic Laboratory. The descending structure types were found to be the most appropriate: Flumes; Broad-crested Weirs; Orifices and Sharp-crested Weirs.
