In this research study an investigation into performance of direct-sequence spread spectrum multiple-access (DS/SSMA) communications with deterministic complex signature sequences is presented. The Discarding Sorting (DS) and Enhancing Sorting (ES)-Algorithms are introduced to select the good subset with average interference parameter (AIP) criterion. Expressions for the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and the bit error rate (BER) at the output of correlator are derived. These expressions are used to evaluate the SNR and BER performance both as a function of number of simultaneous users and as a Eb/ N 0 . It is shown that the complex sequences can yield better probability of error performance then binary sequences. New users that employ complex signature sequences can be added into existing systems with graceful performance degradation.
