The circulation pattern in the vicinity of off-shore breakwaters separated by a gap, is investigated experimentally for oblique incoming wave with sandy beach. The computed mass transport velocities in the absence of breakwaters and wave heights in the presence of breakwaters are compared with the experimental values. The experiments were carried out with different lengths· of breakwaters for different wave characteristics. The observed flow velocities have the tendency to increase with the wave height and the wave period. The ·main reason for the occurrence of the flow pattern is the wave height difference created by the diffraction of the incident wave and this flow pattern is strongly governed by the vortices formed at the tips of break waters. The shoreline changes are mainly due to the diffracted incoming wave and this process is supported by the rip current generated flowing towards the breakwater.
