Summary, etc. In some South-East Asian countries where farm sizes are small, a large amount of irrigation water is lost from the paddy fields into surrounding fallow fields through the bunds. The magnitude of both lateral loss known as seepage and vertical loss known as percolation are to be accurately determined for better management of irrigation water. An attempt was made in this study to determine the magnitude of seepage and percolation separately in paddy field condition with variable water table and ponding water depths for different soil textures. For this purpose, the two dimensional steady seepage equation was converted into finite difference expression and the solution was obtained by relaxation technique. A computer program was developed to fit all the boundary conditions and to compute the final improved potentials by the process of iterations. Darcy's law was applied to calculate seepage and percolation from the improved potentials . It was observed that seepage and percolation increased with deeper water table, higher ponding depth and higher value of hydraulic conductivity of the soil . The findings of this model conform to observations done by field experiments.
