Summary, etc. A reactor is designed to accomplish a process combining electrolysis, coagulation and flotation without adding any flocculent or gases. This process is characterized by utilizing the chloride to generate sodium hypochlorite which improves color removal efficiency from dye wastewater. Bipolar plate electrodes are used in the reactor to achieve better mass transfer and hence better color removal rate. Number of electrodes, current density, initial dye concentration, conductivity, effects of chloride addition and different electrode material (steel and aluminum plates) are investigated in batch mode. Four types of dye wastewater, identified as reactive dye, acid dye, disperse dye and a mixture of disperse and vat dye wastewater are studied. Industrial dye wastewater is also treated in a continuous mode. Color removal rate of the reactive dye, disperse dye and the mixture of disperse and vat dye wastewater surpasses 92 % while color removal rate of acid dye wastewater is 85 % . These results are obtained without any pretreatment being carried out. Color of the industrial effluent is brought down from the range of 7000 ADMI to 300 ADMI at a power consumption of around 7.5 KWh/m3{u2022} Color and COD removal rate of 96% and 85% respectively is achieved. The suspended solid in the effluent is around 100 mg/L. The results obtained from experiments show that if the best combination of current density and flow rate is used, the electroflotation reactor can be used to treat industrial dye wastewater effectively at a relatively low consumption.
