Summary, etc. Aerodynamic interference effects amongst tall buildings have been investigated on a square cross-sectioned building model with height to breadth ratio equal to 4. The experiment was conducted inside a boundary layer wind tunnel, using high-frequency force balance technique. The first part of the experiment involved measuring and assessing the overall wind force on one instrumented building model (principle building model), while one geometrically similar neighbouring building model (interfering building model) is placed around its vicinity. The second part of the experiment explores the effects with two interfering buildings rather than one. More importantly, the spectra of forces as well as the correlation amongst different force components were comprehensively analysed. It was found that although the mean wind forces on the building generally reduces due to the presence of one neighbouring building, the fluctuating forces on the other hand may be significantly amplified. The magnitudes of fluctuating forces amplification were however found to be much lower than what have been previously observed. The investigation of the force spectra revealed that there are many ways in which interference effects can alter the frequency composition of wind forces. In some cases, the spectral density of force may substantially increase in the natural frequency range of typical tall buildings. Furthermore the examination on the correlations of forces uncovered one critical finding that the correlation between along-wind/across-wind forces and along-wind/torsional forces significantly emerges due to interference effects. The investigation on interference effects with two interfering buildings also shows the amplification of the fluctuating forces. However, it was not conclusively more serious in comparison with the effects due to one interfering building. The observed force spectra on the other hand show several unique patterns which can not be observed with only one neighbouring building.
