| Summary, etc. | The electric power industry plays an important role in Vietnam's national socio-economic development. To meet the growing demand for electricity in the nation, Vietnamese Government has decided to implement the equitization program for the power sector where Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has occupied a dominant position in many years. Building a comprehensive development strategy is therefore essential to EVN in order to retain its leading position in the emerging electricity market. This study firstly outlines a common understanding of relevant concepts such as strategy, strategic management, SWOT analysis method from literature review, in combination with best practice captured from a case study of strategic development in Malaysia. Empirical data of EVN has been collected via observations and unstructured interviews. Secondly, the electricity market in Vietnam is analyzed to provide a basis for determining EVN's strenghts, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Finally, this study identifies a development strategy framework for EVN from 2014 to 2020. Main findings include (1) Focus Growth development strategy for power production, (2) Restructuring strategy and (3) Corporate Image development strategy for EVN. |
