520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The effect of formation, on mechanical and optical properties of paper was studied based on furnished variables. Bleached muli bamboo (Melocanna Baccifera), eucalyptus, acacia, bagasse, mixed tropical hardwood and pine were used as raw material. Bamboo pulp was mixed with other pulps at a ratio of 80:20. Nonrefined bamboo pulp were fractionated by using Bauer- McNett Fiber Fractionation into four fiber length fractions. The fined fraction which goes through 200 mesh screen was collected and mixed with long fiber fraction. Fiber length and coarseness were measured for all separate, mixed and bamboo pulp fractions. Pulps were refined in laboratory PFI mill at about 20° to 30° SR. Standard laborat01y hand sheets (0.017%) and headbox consistency hand sheets were made from individual and mixed pulps. Higher than headbox consistency (0.06%) hand sheets were made from mixed pulps and paper properties were compared with headbox consistency hand sheets. Two sets of hand sheets of hand sheets by mixing with bamboo (main constituent) with mixed tropical hardwood and pine pulp. Pulps were refined at about 20° to 30° SR, 10% and 20 % filler were added. Headbox consistency hand sheets were made and paper properties were compared with machine made paper. Paper with better formation demonstrates higher strength properties except tear resistance. Formation and optical properties improve with decreasing fiber length. Increasing pulp consistency has bad effect on formation and tensile properties but increase tear resistance and light scattering coefficient. Mixing of long short and fine fraction (R30 + R200 + P200) of bamboo pulp do not improve formation, strength nor optical properties except tear strength. Mixed middle fraction gives better formation, optical property and smoothuess than bamboo pulp but strength properties little bit lower than bamboo pulp. Mill made paper have better formation and all other properties than headbox consistency hand sheets, except tear resistance.
