Summary, etc. Two studies were conducted to determine the effect of methods of planting and plant populations on the growth and yield of sweet corn and baby corn on acid sulphate soil under rainfed condition. The results of the study revealed that there are no significant differences on methods of planting in all growth and yield parameters in both corn species. The number of cobs/plant was not · influenced by plant populations however number of harvested cobs increased with populations. The yield of sweet corn was not significantly affected by plant populations however unmarketable yield was significantly highest in plants grown in 80,000 plants/ha. In baby corn, increasing the population to 53,000 and 80,000 plants/ha significantly produced more yield than plants grown in 26, 667 plants/ha. The plant populations significantly increased the stover yield of baby corn and sweet corn plants. The planting in rows with a population of 53,333 plants/ha of sweet corn and a population of 80,000 plants/ha of baby corn have potential of increasing yields and net returns to the farm.
