Summary, etc. Field t estin g of a PTO powered disk tiller Model F-800 was conducted in Bangkok clay soil. Tests were conducted at different forward speeds of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 kmph and 33°, 28° and 23° different gang angles. Average PTO speed was 540 rpm for all the experiment s . Test runs were also conducted without PTO power s upply. All experiments were conducted at 263 average soil moistu re content. The draft power was measured by a three point linkage dynarnometer. The PTO power was measured by a slip ring torque transducer. The power requirement and the tilling effects on soil physical properties were studied after pass 1 and pass 2. Draft power was calculated from draft force and forward speed. The PTO power was calculated from the PTO torque and speed data. The overall performance of powered disk tiller at different gang angles was evaluated in terms of power requirement, change in soil bulk density, total porosity, cone index, mean weight diameter and percent soil inversion. In general, it was observed that the disk tiller required as much as 273 more power at 33° gan g an gle settin g than at 28° gang angle setting. Power. consumptjon was affected by forward speed and the number of passes. At a ny of the gang angle settin gs power consumption was hig her during pass 1 than pass 2. The tiller performed better at 28 ° gang angle compared to 33 ° gang angle in terms of change in bulk density, total porosity, cone index and mean weight diameter. However, higher percentage of soil inversion was obtained at 33° gang angle. At 23° gan g angle, the disk tiller was not able to work properly due to prevention of disk penetration by the gage wheel which was moving on the unplowed field. The powered disk tiller without PTO power supply required heavy draft and the tillage depth was reduced as muc h as 503. It was found by power spectral density analysis that the soil failure frequency for the draft of powered disk tiller ranges from 4-6 cycles/meter and for torque it varies from 3.3-4.3 cycles/revolution of the disk. The wave length of soil failure was higher at 33° gang angle compared to 28° gang angle for both draft and torque.
