Summary, etc. Crossflow microfiltration is a pressure driven membrane process allowing better permeate flux by shearing action of flow. It can remove most of the impurities found in water and wastewater. But there are still main problems to be solved due to fouling, deposition and internal clogging, which reduce the efficiency of separation. Pulsation cleaning is one of the desirable techniques to avoid or minimize these drawbacks. In this laboratory-scale study, different sets of CFMF experiments were carried out to study the use of pulsation cleaning technique as a declogging technique in enhancing the process performance. Synthetic clay suspension and the filter backwash water were used out. Pulsation cleaning technique was found to improve the efficiency of the filtration process, when synth etic clay suspension and the filter backwash water were used. The effect of pulsation frequency, Tf, and break duration, Tb, were studied and it was observed that the condition of Tf= 1 min., Tb = 5 sec. was found to be the best operating condition for both suspensions. It was found that the higher permeate flux was obtained when the operation of pulsation was more frequent. Also the study performed showed that this technique improved the permeate flux by 89% and 88%, respectively.
