| Summary, etc. | In the past, pavement was only maintained but not properly managed until the concept of Pavement Management System (PMS) was first introduced. The PMS is introduced to Thailand since 1984 which is called TPMS. The results of TPMS are in the form of text and tabular which might not provide a good representation of the actual deterioration to pavement engineers to plan the maintenance activities. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) application is applied to solve the problems. The second division - Chonburi province is exemplified as the case study because the selected areas had consistently collected the pavement deterioration. The results are represented in both form attribute and geographical data making clearly to users. In addition, a small-scale database is developed to help provide data transfer between TPMS data and the GIS program. Therefore, the attribute data can be transferred directly from TPMS database while the spatial data is depicted by GIS application. All of the actual pavement conditions in the second division - Chonburi province are represented in the developed program. The results of the GIS program present the actual condition of the pavement in years 1995, 1997, and 1999. Maintenance activities can be identified to routes/subsections that are considered to be greatly deteriorated. The trends of the past maintenance can also be identified in the developed program. This program helps the engineers to plan and schedule the maintenance activities to the proper routes/subsections. They can use the results to manage for maintenance plan under budget limitation to make it most efficient and economically. |
