520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The performances of bored, driven and auger press pile in Bangkok subsoils are evaluated by comparing their skin frictions of piles embedded in clay, end- b earing resistance of piles having tips in sand and the settlements based on the soil-pile Elastic ' s Modulus <Es) estimated by using POULOS & DAVIS <1980)' s method. The study shows that the developed skin friction in stiff clay of all pile types is not much different and the developed end-bearing resistance of the piles having tips in sand, in this study, vary depending upon the pile construction type s . The end - bearing capacity of driven pile yields the value 2 -3 times higher than that of bored pile. While the " equivalent" end-bearing resistance of the auger press pile is nearly equal to that of bored pile. The skin friction of bored pile proposed by MEYERHOF (1976) is used to calculated the shaft resistance in sand of both the bored and auger pile and the Es values of bored piles penetrated both in clay and sand are very high due to the effect of their large diameters. At the same working load, Es of driven piles both penetrat e d in clay and sand are higher than that of auger pile . The auger press pile settlement is larger than that of driven pile and bored pile when the pile dimensions are the same . Es also appears to be dependent more on the size and the construction technique of the pile than the pile tip's material. This conclusion is from data of pile having approximately the same depth range C 25 to 35 m> . The study of the performance of the auger press pile i s concentrated on the consequence of the construction technique. Auger press piling technique performed in clay seems to yield less effect on the pile capacity, compared to that performed in the sand . But its effect on settlement behaviour is clearly shown for both piling in c lay and sand. The empirical soil mechanics method for the estimation of the capacities of the three pile types is proposed . Good correlations are obtained in the predicted failure loads compared to the capacities obtained from loading tests.
