Substitution possibilities of fuelwood in Nepal : policy implications

Its interlinks with the trends in mi gration and the forest situation was treated in more detail. The tool selected for the study was the MEDEES simulation model based on applied system analysis as it provides easy way to trade off between data availability and relibility. The result obtained showed that fuelwood substitution by commercial fuels seems not feasible nor desirable at least for the forseeable future. The better way to deal with the fuelwood scarecity problem is to regulate the traditional energy supplies by discouraging Hills to Terai migration on the one hand and increasing the afforestation on the other.
