Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1986 Summary: This study is concerned with the fluidized bed combustion of rice husk. Different sets of experiments have been performed in the fluidized be d with rice husk . Experimental run s have using sand as the inert bed material. Thirty-six sets of experimental runs ha v e been performed with different feeding rates from 200 to 400 Kg/hr- m2 . The result s howe d that high combustion efficiency can be obtained at at higher air-fue l ratios a nd at h igher mean bed temperatures. Al so operation with the circulation of elutriated particles resulted in higher combustion efficiency. An e nlarged freeboard was a l so found to improve combustion efficiency because it provided longer retention time of the carryover particles and thus allowed more complete combustion of carbon associated with ash. A maximum combustion efficiency of 95.17% was attained in case of a well insulated fluidized bed with freeboard enlarged to two times the bed diameter.
