One of the principle drivers of competition is technological change. Many examples are quoted in the literature to show how technological change has eroded the competitive advantage of well established firms and propelled others to positions of leadership. Almost all of the example are however based on the experience of firms in Europe and North America and there is hardly any documentation of Asian examples. This study attempts to meet this need by documenting some cases of Asian companies which have achieved competitive advantage through technological change. The framework for such a documentation has been derived based on a comprehensive literature survey of competitive strategy and advantage. This framework has been applied to three brief cases, the information for which has been obtained from business magazines, and a comprehensive case study of a Thai-British joint venture company located in Bangkok. Relevant conclusions are presented based on these case studies and recommendations are made for further studies in this area.
