The system is intended for irrigation purpose and flood control in that order of priority with hydroelectric power generation as a by-product of the system's operation. The study included an analysis of the monthly streamflow input data definition of the appropriate probability distribution describing the hydrological series, trend and periodicity determination using the 3 Parameter Log-Normal (3PLN) probability distribution function, autocorrelation and spectral analyses, respectively, generation of monthly streamflow synthetic data using the Thomas-Fiering streamflow generating model, optimization and simulation techniques. The application was done on an irrigation system undergoing a number of stages of development.
