Data dissemination on MANET by using content delivery network (CDN) technique

In particular, efficient and secure dissemination of data across its infrastructure-less environment is considered one of the most challenging aspects. This research proposes the adoption of CDN techniques, as is used on the Internet, to disseminate information from a single source to multiple destinations on MANET. Specifically, a single source node will disseminate data to surrounding nodes by repeatedly transmitting batches of packets via a set of CDN nodes acting as relays. Our technique is developed and based on the OLSR (Optimized Link State Routing Protocol) used in MANET; it is called OCDN. Furthermore, a limited number of relay and CDN nodes are selected from a set of MPR (Multi-Point Relay) nodes in OLSR, thus concealing subscriber nodes, and reducing the potential for data interception & manipulation. Data packets are subsequently transmitted from a set of CDNs to destination nodes, using the same technique as MPR that is a broadcasting technique. In this work we evaluate the performance of our proposed technique, in terms of probability of successful transmission, using a network simulator called NS3. Performance is subsequently compared with pure Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR), and that of recent research work focusing on clustering-based data transmission algorithms in VANET (Vehicular Ad Hoc Network). In summary, it is clear that our proposed algorithm enhances the overall probability of successful transmission when compared with pure OLSR. In addition, it achieves higher probability of successful transmission compared to clustering-based data transmission algorithms in VANET, especially at high node density. Finally, a closed-form mathematical expression of the probability of successful transmission using our proposed algorithm, in a multi-hop network environment, is derived, verified and presented.
