At the moment, when the sugar industry in the world is facing a difficult period of sugar-price reduction, the task of achieving high efficiency of the production to get the margin is very important especially in Vietnam where the prime cost of the product is still high. Although the sugar content in cane is rather high and mature cane is always available, the average sugar content of the season in a Vietnamese sugar company is relative low and cane harvesting plan is not in compliance with the factory requirement. Apart from the other nondeterministic factors the contribution of the harvesting planning is considerable to raise production efficiency. The harvesting planning model in the study will improve the current system to result in a higher efficiency. The model is also used to determine the best starting date of the season and the best structure of cane variety. For a sugar company, the models are applied as examples. The extra profits are quite attractive and deserve further considerations and practical applications. Some analyzes of the problem at different aspects will make the solutions more flexible and help the agricultural department manager and the area managers in creating a better harvesting plan for the coming seasons. Sugar factories in Vietnam are often located in the hill areas and far from customers. The products in a season of about 6 months will be sold throughout a year. So hiring the intermittent warehouses in cities are inevitable for both storing and supplying sugar to customers. The problem is to determine the best solution in warehouse hiring to minimize the total costs of delivering sugar to agents. The model is also amended to seek for an optimal capacity of the factory warehouse. A comparison between the results obtained by the model and the practice is also carried out. Savings are attractive for the sales and marketing departments to use the model for determining the hiring warehouse for each year.
