ET-81-7Publication details: Bangkok : Asian Institute of Technology, 1981Description: xi, 64 pSubject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1981 Summary: This study was to improve one of solar refrigerator constructed by EXELL et al (1978) at AIT as a further step towards the development of an economically viable intermittent solar refrigerator. One of the major problems in the previous investigation was that of removing the heat of absorption from the collector during the refrigeration cycle at night. This problem has been overcome by installing a tubes trough the top header in which cool water is circulated by natural flow , and the absorber tubes are immersed in a cold water tank. The refrigeration process can now be started 2-3 hours earlier than with the previous system and the heat of absorption of 1. 26 kW (equal to 3.35 kg/hr ammonia absorbed) can be dissipated trough the absorber tube without any increase of the solution temperature in the collector. The ammonia could be absorbed at a much higher rate if the temperature of the solution is allowed to increase to a reasonable value . Theoretical study for optimizing the initial volume of solution was made and a mathematical expression of the optimization-analysis was carried out .
