The study deals with the for real - time forecasting, rainfall - runoff simulation method for river routing and real - time operation. development of a modeling system it comprises a NAM model for from subcatchments, Muskingum an updating procedure for use in The development of the modeling system to Wu basin with catchment area of 1981 km2 located in Taiwan is described. The Wu basin was divided into 4 subcatchments with separate rainfall and selected gauging stations. The data used in real - time forecasting were obtained from 13 rainfall stations, 4 gauging stations and 1 evaporation station. The model was calibrated using concurrent daily rainfall, runoff and monthly evaporation data. It was also verified using independent data to assess its predictive reliability. The updating procedure used for real - time forecasting proved quite effective as the updated hydrographs were much better than the simulated ones, however the peak flows were still not simulated very good.
