Eng..) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1987 Summary: The performance of a reversed flat plate collector with a single glass cover and insulation underneath its slim reflectors and a hot water system has bee n investigated. The reflectors were made of stainless steel. Testing was carried out on sunny days only. The collector efficiency test was conducted by means of ASHRAE method on the solar testing bed at AIT energy park. Results from the experiments show that the collector efficiency of present design is higher than that of Das'design and lower than that of Lim's des ign. The experiments of system efficiency were performed by connecting to a storage tank. Through the results of testing, a graph of the system efficiency is obtained. It is used for conducting economic assessment. The slope of the present performance curve is about 0.3, which is slightly lower than that of previous RFPC To analyse the economic viability of this Reversed Flat Plate Collector, the annual saving of the system a nd the cost of useful energy have been investigated. Results s how that if the useful life is 15 or more y ears, the system of this RFPC will be economically feasible. The results compare d with a previous design show that the present design , is more . economical. Further study and improvement of the Re versed Flat Plate collector are recommended .
