An aggregate production planning model in a heavy manufacturing industry

By: Call Number: AIT Thesis no. IE-79-22 Contributor(s): Material type: TextSeries: Asian Institute of Technology. Thesis ; no. IE-79-22Publication details: Bangkok : Asian Institute of Technology, 1979Description: vii, 59 pSubject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1979 Summary: In this study the problem of aggregate production planning is studied in the context of heavy manufacturing industry. A product classification procedure is used to group the products into a few classes. A mathematical model is then developed to minimize the total cost of production. The basic model is then transformed into a Linear Programming model to solve for the optimal production plan. The model is then applied to a heavy mechanical equipment manufacturer in Pakistan to test its applicability. A post optimality analysis is conducted to investigate the effect of various cost coefficients, and to draw conclusions.
