Dynamic behaviour of 200 MW-turbo-generator foundation at South Bangkok Thermal Plant: comparison between measured and predicted behaviour

Thesis ; no. 773Publication details: Bangkok : Asian Institute of Technology, 1975Description: 87 pSubject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1975 Summary: Measurements were performed on a 200 MW turbo-generator foundation at South Bangkok Thermal Plant in order to study its dynamic performance and comparing it with the theoretically predictable behavior. The factor of primary interest which must be known in theoretical analysis is the shear modulus of the roil. For this purpose cross-hole shooting was carried out near the turbine foundation in order to determine the in-situ shear wave velocity as a function of depth. The measurements showed that the vibration of the turbine foundation is very complex. It consisted of flexural vibration of the beams and torsional vibration of the upper slab associated with horizontal vibration. The measured amplitude of vibration compared with the predicted value gave a fairly good agreement. However, it was found that the natural frequencies of the system could not be found accurately.
