Subsequently pore size distribution index and other hydraulic properties were evaluated for each sample. The results showed a significant decrease in hydraulic conductivities for the soil which had been treated mechanically. Compaction appeared to have a greater effect on permeability than puddling. Expressions relating hydraulic conductivity to pore size distribution index were developed based either on porosity or on bubbling pressure. However, it appeared that Laliberte's method of determining the bubbling pressure for fine-grained soils is not suitable and the relation between hydraulic conductivity and pore size distribution index based on porosity is recommended.
