A given set of demand nodes can be connected in a number of ways to form a network system, whether branched or looped. The present study takes an existing water distribution network and makes linear programming optimization computer runs on them. The demand nodes of the existing water distribution system are connected along the existing pipe sections to form minimum spanning tree, shortest path, and random path branched networks and linear programming optimization computer runs are made on them. Then from each of the branched systems the looped systems are developed and again linear programming optimization computer runs are made on these derived looped systems. The results are then studied to see which strategy is most efficient.
