These algorithms follow reasoning first developed by Angstrom in a study. of the determination · of diffusivities in metal bar.s. Angstrom's model involved only one dimensional bodies; this study extends these algorithms to higher dimensions. Seas of rectangular shapes are considered, where heating by the sun or tidal action are the mechanisms which cause periodic changes in the temperature. The solutions to the corresponding differential equations are obtained. At selected points, amplitudes and phase shifts of the temperature variations which are assumed to be available data for this research, are expressed in terms of the diffusivity coefficients. This leads to a system of transcendental equations with the diffusivities as unknowns.
