Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression technique are used to determine the income and price elasticities of aggregated and disaggregated energy consumption on a national level, sectorial level and by energy types. A comparison of the elasticities obtained were made with values from similar studies carried out on Western economies. Projections on energy demand were carried out using the parameters obtained in the study. An assessment of the economic impact of the cost of input energy and development cost of energy infrastructure was made. The analysis of the structure of energy consumption based on underlying economic factors provides an insight of the general behavior of energy consumers in Malaysia. The study also indicates that although Malaysia is presently heavily dependent on petroleum as its major commercial energy input its future energy situation is generally optimistic due to the variety and volume of energy resources it possesses.
