Results indicate that China and ASEAN are more competitive than complementarity; China will import high-technology- capital-intensive goods from Japan; more and more medium technology goods will be imported from South Korea and Taiwan.

The emergence of regional economic blocs, such as the European Union and the North America Free Trade Area, is expected to further strengthen the inter-dependency between China and its Asian trading partners. Tracie flows between China and selected Asian countries were analysed in this study.
